It was while at The New School that she learned woodcutting from Antonio Frasconi. She began talking graduate courses at the New School for Social Research following college, and pursued life drawing at the Art Students League. Having pursued art from an early age Hogrogian attended Hunter College following high school, where she was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in 1953. While in high school she illustrated the school's magazine and enrolled in art courses at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
